Gotta Have Faith (and actions)

And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith.” Genesis 15:6 (NLT)

In the midst of his doubts, Abram still had faith. His mind could not conceive of how God’s promise to him would come about. He was old. He was childless. He was in a foreign land. All he really had was this “promise” from the LORD. It is at this point that faith becomes real. Faith sees clearly through the fog of doubt. The promise came from the LORD, and Abram knew that, despite his circumstances, God would keep His promise. Faith is believing the right things—and then acting on that belief.

ONETHING: Keep the faith in the right place!

The Habit of Faith requires constant attention and action. In our life, we all encounter many challenges and circumstances which threaten to weaken or destroy our faith. We must have the ability to look beyond the fuzzy years of our own lifetime and claim the promise of God in eternity. Faith must be more of a verb than noun. Faith is demonstrated in the reality of our actions. I have “faith” in gravity, so therefore, I don’t jump off of high places. I have “faith” in food, so therefore, I eat. (I may have too much faith at that point.)

Hebrews 11:8-19 describes the many actions of Abram’s faith, but they all started with the promise of God to Abram. Abram believed God—and acted in accordance with that belief—and by this kind of faith, Abram was saved.

Our faith (with actions) toward the promise of God will have similar results in our lifetime…and eternity.

Plus ONE: Keep doing the right things.
