“But even if He (Jehovah) doesn’t…” Daniel 3:18a (NLT)
What passes for faith these days is amazing. Most “faith” is simply a means of getting Jesus “to do” what we want Him to do. The kind of “faith” that truly believes “He doesn’t have to do anything” to prove Himself to me is a different kind of “faith” altogether. In fact, it is the only kind that can be truly called “faith.”
“Faith in faith” believes our faith makes things happen. “Faith in God, alone” recognizes He is LORD regardless what we want to have happen. True faith surrenders; all other “faiths” demand. True faith is based on the knowledge that He is God and that we can trust His will. The other stuff, often called “faith”, thinks we can manipulate God into doing things our way.
What does it take to have that kind of faith which can declare—“But even if He doesn’t…”? For me, it requires a thorough examination of what our “faith” consists of. Do we trust an all-powerful, all-knowing, every present, all-loving Savior? If all that is true, we can trust whatever He does…or doesn’t do.
Fiery trials will come our way. “Don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.” [1 Peter 4:12] True “faith” doesn’t allow us to avoid our troubles; it allows us to face them. As you face your “fiery furnace”? Do you trust Jesus to save you? Do you trust Him…“even if He doesn’t”?
ONETHING: I will trust Jesus—whatever He does…or doesn’t do.
